Blue Letter Bible is privileged to present a digital edition of Jeremiah Burroughs’s The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment, wherein he says,
“Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God’s wise and fatherly disposal in every condition.”
Jeremiah Burroughs discusses the true source of discontentment, the heart. Contentment comes from the inward state of the heart, rather than circumstances. Therefore, a Christian can be content regardless of circumstances as they submit to and desire God’s perfect will in everything.
This book was originally published [somewhere between 1648 and 1659?], and offers an exposition of Philippians 4:11 through a series of sermons.
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” (Philippians 4:11)
We highly value the spiritual content of writings from the saints who have gone before us, and it is a privilege to be able to offer enhanced digital versions to our users. Converting an original book into digital format requires extensive work, including scanning the original book, editing the scanned pages, and capturing characters. We then thoroughly proofread and carefully edit the document to improve the readability of ancient publications. Our digital books may receive the following features:
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
